Doll Land

The enormous doll took me away to Doll Land.
“But I don’t want to go to Doll Land,” I said.
“Doll Land is big. Doll Land is good,” said she.
She set me down in a house without running water.
She diapered me and set me with G.I. Joe.
There was no food so I could not eat.
No phones had this house nor could G.I. Joe speak.
He sat there and stared and wasn’t very good company.
“You aren’t playing very well,” she said.
So she did away with the diaper and took me home.
“Ta Ta,” she said. “Now you see how the other half lives.”

Destiny

The two seagulls flew over head
Amidst the bright blue sky
One gull leading the other gull
Then the second leading

They flew along the coastline far
From the peering eyes' sight
I watched the pair and glanced nearby
To a sign that held words

I love you, it said brightly there
And I looked at us up
In the heavens amidst blue clouds
Flying so gracefully

Found on the Beach

I found a shell on the beach today
It was beautiful and I kept it for the length of the walk
It was white and orange
On one side it had striations as if it were a ladder
On the other it was pure white

It was small and oblong
Like a road rising up to meet you
It was thick and had weight
Yet you could pick it up like a feather
And I threw it into the Ocean

Before I could make a necklace of it for you.
Set adrift on the Ocean it might someday find a home
A safe place to lodge itself and dream of you.
Perhaps adventure is its lot, to drift beneath the waves

Like a submarine gliding through the vast depths.

Who's on What?

Ken: Hello.
Lisa: Yes?
Ken: I was looking for my mind.
Lisa: Do you mind?
Ken: Yes, my mind?
Lisa: Really?
Ken: Yes, I've lost it.
Lisa: You certainly have.
Ken: Have you seen it?
Lisa: What!?
Ken: Have you seen my mind?
Lisa: My, my!
Ken: No, no, my mind.
Lisa: You're mind, you say?
Ken: Yes, my mouth seems to still be working, however the brain is no longer attached.
Lisa: Attached? Yes, I'm seeing someone.
Ken: That's nice. But have you, um, seen my, um, brain.
Lisa: Bran? Yes, that's a very good idea. Keeps you regular.
Ken: Brain! Brain!
Lisa: Go away, please. Come again some other day.

3 Poems for Your Love

3 poems for your love
A melody of your own invention
To unite them

A song of hope
A song of compassion
A song of love

Where to begin
Where to end
I don't know

Not always quick
Not always right
I bring you these words

To offer solace
To offer acceptance
To offer joy

3 poems for your love
Not quite enough
But it's all I have

Where?

there was the numb stage
then the i don't know stage
now it's the fun stage
preceded by the watching stage

where's the hero?
it must be me
can i put it all together?
to make a future

and where's the girl?
where's the wife?
can we put it all together
where's the life?

Any Minute (Thanksgiving Poem)

Any minute I feel
You will come in the door
Any minute I see
The music will be turned down

Your bright shining faces
Will walk through the door slow,
Sure, and uncertain
What surprises and mischief

Might be waiting beyond
But I am there with song,
Sympathy, and stories
Of excitement and sorrow,

Friends and competition.
Victor and Tammy, Josh
and Betsy, Juan, and me
Down by the pool, looking

At the moon, talking to
You on the phone, talking
To each other, eating
Our Thanksgiving away.
